O r i g i n

Kin means “fabric” and Chaku means “to wear”. This sweet small drawstring bag was developed for Japanese ladies as an accessory to a kimono for personal necessities such as a handkerchief, money, sacred amulet, cosmetics and other things that need to be close at hand and safe.

In the Edo era, Kinchaku became a popular fashion icon of the influential upper class and VIPs. The most expensive bags were made by artisans from leather, imported wool fabrics and luxurious silks. No one could go without one.
